Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell Unveils Charter Oak Painting in Honor of 375th Anniversary of Connecticut.

“On behalf of everyone in Connecticut, I am very  proud to accept this absolute treasure to help mark our 375th Anniversary,” the Governor said during the unveiling at the Connecticut Convention Center. “The Charter Oak embodies the spirit of Connecticut – strong, resilient and deeply rooted in heritage. Mark Patnode’s talent and generosity add another important chapter to the story of the Charter Oak and our state, one that will continue to be told for generations.”

The Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism (CCT) is piloting a Teaching Artist Mentorship Program in 2010. Six CCT Directory Teaching Artists (L'Ana Burton, dance; Jackie Coleman, theater; Rolande Duprey, puppetry; Leslie Johnson, writing; Thomasina Levy, music; and Mark Patnode, visual arts) were invited to participate.

Mark is developing plans for Salvation Army Hartford North End Corps Arts in Education Students in a pilot program under a grant by Target Corporation.

Mark is pleased to share the achievements of Young Learners at The Salvation Army - The Right Place in Hartford, CT. Mark is conducting an arts-centric Residency to address Connecticut Frameworks encouraging Young Learners to develop multiple skills. Funded through a Fisher Foundation Grant, the program enables inner-city Youth to gain valuable experience in the arts and is integral to their development as youth in the 21st Century. Mark's painting, Tree Reflections (previously shown at 2008 Faber Birren National Color Awards) is included in the Mystic Arts Center 53rd Regional.
Mark is included in Bulgaria // Then + Now, featuring works from a creative and cultural exchange program involving Bulgarian and American artists made possible through the Griffis Foundation of New London, CT and the Orpheus Foundation of Sofia, Bulgaria. Details under Latest Exhibits.

May 8, 2009 News
Mark worked with Third Grade Students CCT Arts in Education HOT School Alcott Elementary, Wolcott, CT, to develop a Native American Longhouse. This CCT HOT School Residency is a largely Student-directed project. For more information on Teaching Artists select the Teaching Artist link.

Mark was selected by Senator Joseph Lieberman as his Designated Artist for Connecticut for the 2008 White House Christmas Tree. Mark’s design is in the Permanent Collection of the Smithsonian Institution.
